I never need to use the choke on my Savage. It starts perfectly with just a half-second touch of the starter button. If the engine is very hot (has been running a hour or so) or if the weather is very cold (below freezing) then the Savage is maybe a bit more stubborn, but not much.

I've read some reviews of the Savage that claim the writers found the Savage to be a bit 'cold-blooded' - they need a good two or three minutes of choke before the engine is warmed up and running smoothly.
